How CBD helps in Anxiety and Depression

The popularity of CBD oil in the medicinal world has seen a rapid rise in the recent years, all because of its evidential effects on treating various types of health issues just like CBD for Anxiety and Depression.

The World Health Organization declared CBD safe for usage without THC and it has already been given a Pharmaceutical license for the treatment of epilepsy.  Unlike before, a lot of research is being undertaken to understand the true medicinal benefits of CBD.

CBD’s interaction with our body, it’s after effects and the long-term effects are being better understood everyday along with the trust people have on this miracle substance.

This article will talk about battling depression and stress through regular and controlled usage of CBD oil and CBD edibles, but to do that, we first have to know exactly what CBD is. Read on;

CBD is a cannabidiol, it is the second most prevalent component out of the many found in the cannabis plant, also known as Marijuana. While it is one of the main components of cannabis, it alone cannot cause a “high” effect on consumption.

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), another active component in cannabis is responsible for the psychoactive properties of the plant. CBD in itself doesn’t have any euphoric or psychoactive effects. (Source)

So how will CBD help me in my fight with Anxiety and Depression?

As we all are aware, depression and stress are closely linked on the neurochemical level. Depression is a serious mental health problem, affecting millions all over the world regardless of their age and gender.

Depression also brings with it insomnia, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts, and weakens the body’s natural immunity and self-healing powers. For instance, a minor bump in the road for a normal person can be a life changing event for a depressed person.

The reason why I am going to talk about depression is because I, myself have been clinically depressed for the past couple of years. And if we know anything about depression is that we know it’s complicated and well incurable.

In the United States and most countries around the world, the traditional method of treating depression or suppressing it is through anti-depressants. These include Nortriptyline, Prozac (and its derivatives), Imipramine, Citalopram, Amitriptyline, and many others.

These anti-depressants are used for selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor management. Long-term usage of these anti-depressants will not only mess with your brain’s ability to produce and regulate serotonin, it will also make you fatigued, restless and at times infertile.

As the number of people suffering depression rises every year, I have little faith on how western medicine approaches the problem of depression.

So, how does CBD help in treating Strains?

Contrary to popular belief, CBD doesn’t cure anxiety and depression. We would be wondering if it did. What cannabidiol and other components of CBD oil do is dramatically reduce the symptoms of depression.

One of the numerous factors causing depression is the imbalance in our body’s natural endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is a specific set of neurotransmitters which are chemically and structurally very similar to the chemicals already present in the cannabis plant.

These chemicals when introduced in the human body, bind to ‘chemical anchor points’ in the nerve cells of the brain to block, receive or send nerve signals travelling from one cell to another.

Different types of cannabinoids perform different activities. CBD makes the brain’s serotonin receptors more alert.

As discussed above, many of the common anti-depressants are serotonin re-uptake inhibitors that maintain the balance of serotonin in the brain. This in fact, makes the serotonin signal stronger and can elevate the mood, but it also comes with its own nasty side effects.

CBD, on the other hand, primes the cells to strongly respond to a smaller amount of serotonin. The neurological effects are almost similar but without leaving any excess serotonin lying around in the brain causing other problems.

The most crippling side effect of depression is the fatigue it brings with it. If you have been through depression or know someone who is, you will know that the body is always fatigued.

CBD is known to reduce fatigue and induce a good sleep, in cases where insomnia comes as a side effect of depression. It certainly doesn’t erase any of the symptoms but it definitely allows us to manage them conveniently.

Although there is no clinical guidance for using CBD and its effects on battling depression, I surveyed and interviewed a number of patients using CBD to battle depression, stress and anxiety.

Their collective wisdom says that CBD has been effective. In regular and uniform dosage, CBD works more efficiently sublingually as CBD oil, in a capsule, in a CBD tincture or in gelatin products like CBD edibles or CBD gummies.

Some people report feeling the effects almost instantly after consuming it while others have felt the effects after as long as 90 minutes of consumption.

Users reported much better results when vaporizing CBD isolates because the effects are stronger and last for long when vaping CBD. You can take a look at the best collection of CBD vape oils, CBD Vape pens, CBD Edibles, CBD Gummies and CBD oral tincture here.
